"Little Greeting, Big Impact"
Skilled interaction with fellow human beings and cultivation of social contacts is considered independent of different cultures as social competence. The way of handling interpersonal relationships might vary in different societies; the basic concept however remains identical.

The Chinese New Year and the Indian Festival of Lights have a special significance comparable to Christmas and Easter in Christian countries. These types of festival are a welcome occasion to exchange good wishes; a form of politeness greatly appreciated everywhere. At the same time it's an important element in the process of interpersonal approach. Don't hesitate to make the first step.

Interpersonal exchange doesn't have to be extensive; it should be mainly informal but serious. In business life Europeans consider non business related communication as rather unusual. Asians however appreciate very much all efforts of a personal approach as this conveys good intentions, relaxes the atmosphere and reinforces the corporate feeling - a fundamental contribution for a successful cooperation. It makes it easier to compromise whenever conflicts may occur. Tough negotiations don't exclude going for a beer after. It's the same with little courtesies: they are easily done but very effective.
